pray

Do not pray for easy lives; pray to be stronger people.

Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for powers equal to your tasks.

Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be the miracle.

Every day you shall wonder at yourself, at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God.

old homestead

I was told about this old homestead by a friend of mine.  It’s on her land and she knows how much I love old buildings, so she told me where it was and how to get to it.  I never would have found it unless I knew about it, because you can’t see it from the highway.  Another friend told me that she thinks the log structure is a horse barn, given the width of the doors.  We had an interesting walk around the area.  We also found 3 deer carcasses and 1 cow carcass that we figure were left by wolves.  It just makes sense considering the fact that wolves are being spotted more and more often in this area.  This homestead isn’t very far from my house, maybe 2 miles or less, as the crows flies.

oh, give me a home…

where the buffalo roam…  Last week I went with a friend for a drive around on her land.  They own a buffalo farm and they own quite a bit of land in the area. We went to an old homestead that I have been to before, but I never took the backroads to get there.  We passed one of the buffalo pens and then headed over to the homestead.  From there we did some exploring around a small lake that is right by the homestead.  The house and garage that were once a part of this homestead have collapsed years ago, but the pigsty and grainery are still standing.

cool clouds

These shots were taken last week on my way to work.  I need to get caught up on my posting here, because I have quite a few other pics from last week as well, and I just keep taking more.  These are all HDR shots.

psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvation;  whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life;  of whom shall I be afraid?

Staron House

This is an old abandoned house a few miles from where I live.  I’ve been there quite a few times to take pictures.  I have a strong fascination with old buildings and this old house just draws me in.  I would love to see what it looked like when it was lived in.  I wonder about the families that have lived here over the years.  All I know about it now is that the family that built it was named Staron.  I have taken pics of this house in all four seasons, but I’m not very happy with the summer shots, so when the conditions are right, and I take new summer shots, I will post this house in all four seasons.  That said, I will post the shots I got yesterday.  If I ever learn the history of this house, I will post it.  The first two shots are originals, and the last three are HDR.

Chilicki Dance Hall

This is the dance hall that once stood on Old Highway 101 in Armstrong Creek, shown in all four seasons.  So far I have not been able to find any history on it.  The roof collapsed many years ago and it was torn down completely last year, so I am very thankful that I have these pictures.  This dance hall was just about a hundred yards down the road from the Chilicki Blacksmith Shop.  I have posted pictures of the blacksmith shop here also in all four seasons.
