Cold Snap

On my way to work this morning, I was thinking about

what I would post over the next few days, and it occurred

to me that since it is going to get very cold here in Wisconsin

this weekend, I would post pictures from my trip to Hawaii.

A couple years ago my daughter was chosen to go play

tournament volleyball in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I went along

with her.  We had a wonderful time there and it was truly

the trip of a lifetime.

The first picture is Waikiki Beach and Honolulu as seen from

the top of Diamondhead Crater.

Evening Peace

I walk along the darkening trail,

The sun descends from view.

The birds, in their nests,

Will slumber and wait

To begin the day anew.

The moon, in silence,  rises high,

All colors fade away.

In the stillness

Of the evening peace,

Thus ends another day.

Riversong

river1.jpg

The river softly sings

As it flows endlessly along

Among the cedars and pines,

Through a world clothed

In a mantle of white.

The river softly sings

The melody of an

Old, familiar song:

A song of peace

And contentment

That can only be heard

Along it’s banks.

The river softly sings

In this world so hushed and still.

No breeze stirs the air,

No other sound breaks

The silence but the call

Of the chickadee,

And the river softly sings…

January 13

It has snowed right through the night and most

of the morning so we now have an additional 4

inches or so of snow. I spent some time today

driving around and also walking in the woods,

looking for things to take pictures of.

I especially like this coil of barbed wire on the

old fencepost.

This old abandoned house is all that remains

of a farm that was once owned by a local family.

I’ve photographed it in every season and every

time I see it, I can’t help but wonder about the

people who had lived here through the years.

I like the way the snow is piled up on these Blue Cohosh berries.

Winter River Haiku

Winter River Haiku

We got about 2 inches of snow last night.  Not nearly

enough to snowshoe on, but enough to provide some

good photo ops.  I think it looks so beautiful when the

snow is covering everything like this.

It was very quiet and still in the woods, with only the

sound of chickadees and the soft singing of the river.
