February 28 Sunrise

I was so happy to see a beautiful sunrise this

morning instead of the usual gray sky.

I shot the first 3 pictures from my front yard,

but I had to leave for work so I shot the last

one of the barn as I was headed down the road.

Just before sunrise,

the world

is hushed and still

as I stand in awe

of the beauty

that God has set

before me….

Cool Clouds

clouds.jpg

Yesterday, when I got out of work, the first thing I noticed

when I walked out the door was the awesome clouds that

filled the sky, so I got a few shots while I waited for the

truck to warm up.  It’s a good thing I got pictures when I

did because by the time I got to a better spot, the clouds

didn’t look like this anymore.  I was hoping they would stay

this way till sunset, but they didn’t and we had a gray,

dull sunset instead.

Feb. 20, 2008 Eclipse

Just after moonrise

I took quite a few shots of the eclipse and this is the only

one that turned out OK.   It was a beautiful sight, but sadly,

this picture just doesn’t do it justice.

Moonlit Path

I went out at about 7:30 tonight before the

eclipse and took a few long exposure shots of

my moonlit snowshoe trail in the woods.

MOONLIT PATH

Try too reach and touch the stars.
Imagine them sifting through your fingers
As in a deep, silent pool.
The full moon above
Shines down coldly upon us
And colors the earth in shades
Of blue, black and gray.

A slight breeze stirs the air,
Carrying sounds from far away.
A dog barks in the distance,
A train rolls through town
On a late night run to somewhere.

Light, wispy clouds pass by from the north,
And briefly cover the moon like a veil,
Before they drift away.
The breeze softly rustles
The dry cornstalks left in the field.

This peaceful night;
This beautiful, peaceful night.
All alone, you and I,
In this world of blue and gray,
Walking the snowy, moonlit path,
Gazing up to the heavens,
Hoping to someday touch the stars.

Bring On The Snow

snowdog.jpg

Well, all the snow we’ve gotten just recently certainly has

added a degree of difficulty to snowshoeing.  That’s fine by

me though, cuz that’s what it’s all about.  The deeper the

snow, the better.   I just wish it would last longer, like

maybe till about May.   I could do without the bitter cold,

but I’ll take all the snow I can get.  Besides, we need it very

badly here, because our lakes and rivers were very low this

past year.   We had a very dry summer and a pitifully small

amount of snow last winter, so needless to say, we’ve got

some catching up to do.

My dog goes “cuckoo for coco-puffs” in the snow, in fact he

seems to think it snows just for him, but he’s having a harder

time too, with the deeper snow.   He starts out running around

like crazy, jumping around in the snow, then pretty soon he’s

trying to catch a break, walking behind me in my trail, which

if fine except that he walks too close and ends up walking on the

tails of my snowshoes.   Yeah, things are never boring with

Axl around.  He’s one of the best friends I’ve ever had, and if

there’s one thing I’ve learned in this life it’s that you simply

cannot put a price on the companionship of a good dog.

County Line Sunset

2-16.jpg

These pictures are of last night’s sunset.   I don’t have a good view

of the west from my house, so I usually drive to County Line Road

for sunset shots.  County Line Road divides Marinette and Forest

counties and also the towns of Goodman and Armstrong Creek.
