Sky Watch Friday

I shot these 2 pictures on my way home last night.

I was on my way home from Norway, MI.  I would have rather been on

County Line Road in Armstrong Creek, which is where I usually get my

best sunset shots, but I was just happy to get any shots at all.  This

is the nicest sunset we’ve had in quite awhile.

Trilliums

These beautiful white flowers are everywhere in the woods

this time of year, in fact, the highest concentration of

Trilliums I’ve ever seen is right in the woods around our

house.  There are some areas where the ground is just

covered with them.   The Bloodroots, Hepatica and Spring

Beauties are pretty much all gone now.  The Merrybells,

Yellow Violets, Canada Violets and Jack in the Pulpits

are starting to pop up, as well as the Bluebead Lilies,

False Lily of the Valley and Blue Cohosh.  Watch for

pictures of those here in the future, but for now,

enjoy the Trilliums.

Cutleaf Toothwort

These pretty little flowers are everywhere in the woods around

our house.   Kind of a funky name for such a cute little

flower though.  The “Cutleaf” isn’t so bad but the “Toothwort”

has got to go.

Camera Critters No. 6

I found this big snapping turtle last summer while I was out

searching for wildflowers. I was driving along and there he was in the

middle of the road, so I stopped for a few shots. I always appreciate

it when the wildlife I’m photographing doesn’t run away.

He’s got the perfect face for radio, doesn’t he?

A Few Treasures

Well, I put in a very long shift at work again today,

and when I got home I had hoped to get out in the

woods a bit, but every time I started across the lawn,

it would start to sprinkle, so I would head back to the

house.  Now mind you, I don’t mind a few raindrops,

but my camera does, and I’m not going anywhere

without my camera.  So I had to be content with a

few photo-worthy treasures I found close to the house.

This mama robin built a nest in our garage window and is sitting on 3

eggs.  She let me get quite close, but she didn’t look very happy about

the intrusion.  I backed off before she could get more upset and fly

away.

These flowers are growing in my flowerbed.  The one on the left is a

pansy, but I can’t remember what the one on the right is.

I actually did make it to the woods for a few minutes before

getting rained out and I found this, the first downy yellow

violet.
