One Single Impression: Melody

MELODY

Daylight waning,
Shadows falling.
Moon is rising,
Night winds calling.

Time drifts by
On silken wings,
Far and low
A song it sings.

It sings of love
And letters sent,
It sings of loss
And years misspent.

It sings of birth
As life begins,
It mourns as death,
Our journey ends.

It sings the melody
Of our lives
And sometimes makes us
Wonder why

We didn’t, when we
Had the chance,
Change the notes,
The refrain perhaps.

The past is gone,
It can’t be changed;
Look forward now
With knowledge gained.

Listen close in the
Hushed, still night
To the song of time
On its endless flight.

One Single Impression: Permanence

The prompt this week at One Single Impression is permanence or transience, and I chose permanence.  When I think of all the things my dad taught me when I was young, I realize how important those things are and how they’ve helped me through the years, and how they will continue to help me.  Unfortunately, my dad passed away this past May, so this is my first Fathers Day without him.  He was the youngest 70 year old I’ve ever met and had an intense love of life.  He was always busy, always moving, and always had plans and goals.  This is a picture of him holding me when I was a baby.

Happy Fathers Day, Dad!

One Single Impression: Pets

This is my old dog, Bill.  He was one of my best friends and the best companion I could have ever asked for. He was 3/4 German Shepherd and 1/4 Rottweiler.  He was very mellow and easy-going.  I used to call him my “gentle giant” because he was so big (112 pounds) and such a big sweetheart.  He was very loyal, following me everywhere I went and very protective as well.   We got him when he was 2 months old and he lived to be nearly 14 years old.  He’s been gone nearly 3 years now, but I still miss him very much and I probably always will.

One Single Impression: Warm

Memories of you

Like butterflies in summer

Always make me smile

There’s nothing in this world that can compare with the warmth

of  a mother’s love, her embrace or her smile.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.

Though you are gone, you will never be forgotten.

Your memory and your spirit always have and always will burn

bright within my heart.   You are with me wherever I go.

All my love forever,

Nancy

One Single Impression: Laughter

ax.jpg

OK, I realize this really isn’t that good of a haiku,

but this picture certainly is worth a thousand words,

or in my case, laughs.  Every time I see it, I laugh,

and hopefully you will too.
